What Super 8 Actually Costs to Shoot

People ask about the film surcharge before they ask almost anything else, so here is the plain math.

A single Super 8 cartridge runs about three and a half minutes of usable footage. Between stock, lab processing and a 4K scan, one cartridge lands somewhere around 90 to 120 dollars before I have touched a single frame.

A wedding day at two cartridges is not a stylistic flourish so much as a budget line, and it is one I would rather show you than hide inside a bigger number.

What you get for it: a texture nothing digital fully replicates, and a hard ceiling on how much footage exists, which forces every roll to be intentional.
